DevOps for teams that don't have a platform team

DevOps gets sold as a toolchain. For most small teams it's closer to a set of habits: ship smaller changes more often, make the person who wrote the code care about how it runs, and write down what happens when something breaks.

We write this section for the agency with four developers, the SaaS founder who is also the whole on-call rota, and the sysadmin who inherited a pipeline nobody documented. Expect articles on release management, infrastructure as code with tools like Terraform and OpenTofu, secrets management, on-call basics and blameless incident reviews.

We're skeptical of complexity that doesn't pay rent. If a cron job and a well-written runbook solve the problem, we'll say so before recommending a platform. When a heavier tool is the right call, we'll explain what it costs to run and what you get back. Each piece ends with something you can apply on your next release, not a maturity model to aim for someday.
